Plenty of Portuguese culture, nature and gastronomy
São Martinho do Porto
Quinta da Perdiz is 10 minutes’ drive from the bustling town of São Martinho do Porto. In the beautiful Bay you can swim safely. There are also beach bars, shops and restaurants
Foz do Arelho
Take a drive in the other direction to Foz do Arelho. This is where the Óbidos lagoon meets the sea. There is a beautiful nature area where many birds can be spotted, even flamingos. You can catch your own fish on the quay or from the beach.
The scenery is stunningly beautiful, the water is delightfully refreshing. The fishermen still catch shellfish in the water with rakes, as they have done for centuries.
In the distance lie quaint, sleepy white villages. There are lots of restaurants where you can enjoy authentic Portuguese cuisine. All this lies within a 10-minute drive.
Caldas da Rainha
Just 15 minutes away by car lies the old town of Caldas da Rainha with its thermal baths, beautiful houses and park with museum.
Delicious regional produce can be found at the fruit and vegetable market. On Monday mornings the gypsy market comes to town and there is a covered fish market every day. Caldas da Rainha is also a lovely town with nice shopping streets and plenty of interesting shops selling, for example, pottery made in this region.
And much, much more…
The historic fortified town Óbidos with its medieval feasts.
The picturesque Nazaré with the billowing skirts of fishermen’s wives and the narrow streets with lots of shops, restaurants and bars. Dried fish vendors, the harbour and a beautiful beach.
Alcobaça with its medieval monastery and square with lovely pastelarias (cake shops) selling sweets and chocolates.
Mafra with the baroque-style monastery and a vast palace that forms a landmark.
The Candeeiros Mountains where you can walk for hours and take a guided tour through the hills.
You can find all of this around B&B Quinta da Perdiz. In your studio there is a folder with all the trips.
